In memory of....

Tubbs! We will miss you so much!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I just want to remind everyone to take photos of their pets too....they are a part of the family also. I knew this time would come but I kept putting taking picture of him off thinking surely he'll be here a little longer, but now it's too late. He had lymphoma cancer and last night he took a dramatic turn for the worse....he was ready to go. We decided to put him to sleep and end his pain. So please today, spend some time with your pets, love on them a little more than normal and take some photos....I'm searching for some and I only have 2 of him and it's breaking my heart.
ETA: THANK YOU SO MUCH everyone for your love and support! Grady and I agree that I think it's going to get worse before it gets better...we are still numb to it all. I forgot to add this poem that Melissa gave to me. Gracie keeps asking what doggie heaven is like so as soon as I'm a little more together, I'm going to read it to her.....it's perfect! Thanks again for sharing this Melissa!
THE RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Yes, it is really hard to lose a pet and the house seems strangely empty without them. When we lost our twelve-year-old golden last year we only went three months before getting a new puppy. The story of our life with Bogie is on my dog blog:

I'm sorry for your loss, Bren. Our dog died the same way too. My husband just assured me that no doubt they all go to heaven. I can never look at snow without remembering our Husky. Thank you for the message and the reminder.

So sorry for your loss of the family dog. My very best friend that recently moved from Luboock to Katy, just found out that her dog has the same thing. She called and said that the vet told her 6 weeks. So sad...I will keep you in my prayers.

April

That poem gets me EVERTIME!!!

I am so sorry for your loss.

We almost lost our doggie this weekend too- she was in the ER for 2 days. It was so hard to think of loosing her. She had a terrible uterine infection and ended up on IV's and having surgery- where they also found cancer.

Feeling here for you and your family- what an adorable photo.
My dog WILL NOT let me take her photos- she RUNS when the camera comes out.

Thinking of you.

I haven't read al the comments...so this may have already been mentioned...but I HIGHLY suggest getting the children's book "Dog Heaven" by Cynthia Rylant. I am an elementary school teacher and have sent it home with many a student who has lost a pet. It is a delightful, heartwarming book that truly helps the hearts (of both children and adults) heal.(She also wrote Cat Heaven)
So sorry for your loss...very sorry.

I am so sorry for your loss. Our pets are the one constant in our lives who pick us up when we are down and love us unconditonally! Our Bella had cancer and we were put in the positon of putting her to sleep this October. I still struggle with it every day she was our baby when we could not have babies and she pulled us through a time that was very low. I thank heavens I have pictures that mean so much to me. Thank you for passing on the poem. Another thing to get to read to Gracie is a kids book called Dog Heaven. It is an amazing book it not only helped our kids but it helped me. My thoughts are with you.

I'm so sorry! Our dog died a couple of years ago and someone gave us a card with that passage on it. It still makes me bawl, but it's so good.

Some good books for kids about grief-- beautifully written, beautiful illustrations that would be great for Gracie's age are "The Tenth Good Thing About Barney" and "Where The Wind Blows" by Charlotte Zolotow.

Hugs,
Roseann

My condolences :( Losing a pet is so very hard. We had to make that decision just over two months ago for our 16 year old diabetic kitty. I am grateful I was there to hold her. I am very thankful she was my quiet model for several photography classes I took over the past year. My favourite photo of her graces our mantle.

Wow-so guess what...we're taking our last photos TODAY of our old doggie Wheels before saying goodbye tomorrow (dh is still coming to grips with this, but it's time).
I'm so sorry for your loss. (and let's talk about how you told Gracie...'cause beyond the book "Dog Heaven", I'm at a loss).
Let's get together and mourn over a starbucks!
